The Current Report contains five articles based on contributors’ presentations at the Fifth Nordic Seminar on Interpreter Education, held in Stockholm in September 2015. This seminar series has taken place once a year since 2011, when representatives of educational programmes and certifying bodies from the Nordic countries gathered in Oslo to discuss challenges involved in providing qualified public sector interpreting.

Some of the challenges remain the same, and probably always will. Evaluating interpreter candidates’ competences and assessing interpreting quality are inherently complex tasks. Given that they will always be based on individuals’ subjective estimations, an important task must be to work on establishing common ground between educators and certifying bodies to keep the discussion on assessment and quality alive. This is partly what the Nordic seminar series is all about.
